A lot has been changed over the past few years in terms of ingredients used in Personal Care products. The ingredients those are inherently important for the intended functionality in a formulation but harsh on the skin are being replaced by safer alternatives. However, there is always a compromise one needs to make – safer choices vs. strength and efficiency. Safer choices are normally read as mild, which do not offer the formulators a confidence of one ingredient being sufficient for the function it is supposed to convey. Thankfully, today we live in a world where we can get the best of both worlds!
One such powerful product range is AMP-ULTRA™ PC from ANGUS® CHEMICAL COMPANY. The product range is so special that practically the technology is only promoted by ANGUS® CHEMICAL COMPANY in the whole world of otherwise competitive products. AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades can be described as multifunctional additives for personal care applications. They are used as neutralizers, stabilizer, pigment dispersion aids and provide rapid, effective and efficient neutralization without yellowing of the end product.
AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades are high-efficiency neutralizers for thickeners like carbomers, acrylate polymers & copolymers. They are proven to be stable in long-term storage conditions and in fact are counted amongst the rare neutralizers to have a high safety profile. This unique property of AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades promise long term stability of formulations thus maintaining the efficacy of the end product throughout its shelf life.
Having low molecular weight, AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades are easy to process and are used in less dosages for in-formulation neutralization as compared to other cosmetic grade neutralizers available in the market. Even in high-alcohol formulations, neutralization with AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades offer very high stability for viscosity and clarity. They are used as primary ingredients in Hand sanitizers, Surface sanitizers where alcohol concentration is very high. Though conventional neutralizers are being used, with increasing awareness their usage is reducing as their stability, clarity and safety remains a question.
Moreover, AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades are also used as mild alkalizing agents (Read: mild on hair) in hair dye formulations. Having said so, the functions of this range are too many to cover. Like any other neutralizer, AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades can be used to obtain alkaline pH (9-11) in the Hair dye formulation. Their major function involves destabilizing hydrogen peroxide in the formulation to initiate lightening process. Their existence in the formulation also allows for hair swelling which helps open the cuticles for subsequent colour deposition. Most conventional neutralizers like Ammonia, Amines etc. are successfully being used today, however, they have a lot of disadvantages to come along. Ammonia is a very strong neutralizer which has a strong pungent odour which does not work well with the end consumer experience. Moreover, both Ammonia and Amines work by destroying the protein envelope surrounding the melanin which causes damage to the hair structure. Plus, these neutralizers pose a huge risk on being a strong carcinogen owing to the presence of DEA & nitrosamines.
In short, these economical ingredients being used in these formulations turn out to be a very costly deal to the end user. With AMP-ULTRA™ PC product range, there is no excess amine during the process as they form azeotropes with water and are rinsed off easily during the drying process. The obtained colour is also deeply appreciated for its natural look and feel.
When it comes to AMP-ULTRA™ PC range, too much is a good thing as their many properties make them versatile ingredients in a number of personal care formulations. They also possess curl retention property which can be utilized to the fullest in hair styling products like styling creams, gels, aerosols and foams where its differentiated property can be experienced. Multi-faceted as it may sound, AMP-ULTRA™ PC product range does also have a side-effect (good one, which is rare!) on the in-can stability of the finished products like shaving foams and deodorants. These products generally employ a tin/metal packaging as compressibility is an important characteristic they look for. More often than not, the products that are alkaline tend to react with the internal lining of the containers causing rust formation. Presence of AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades in such formulations just ensures that this problem doesn’t occur thus helping extend the overall stability.
Baby care is another application to look for. These are indeed one of the very rare neutralization products recommended for applications that are intended for sensitive skin types. The products being hypoallergenic in nature is apt for use in cosmeceutical applications as well. Even in sunscreens or other pigmented systems, AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades and their salt with citric acid can assist uniform dispersion of micro fine titanium dioxide or iron oxides in the system.
To sum up, AMP-ULTRA™ PC grades are globally compliant multifunctional neutralizers which are approved by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, Brazil ANVISA Mercosur Resolution on Cosmetics and Personal Care Products, The Ministry of Health (MOH) of the People’s Republic of China Hygienic Standards for Cosmetics and The 2008 ASEAN Cosmetics Directive.
